The Twin Trees Heywood Art and Culture Festival celebrates the beauty of Heywood Gardens, Heywood Estate and Ballinakill village.
En Plein Air Painting
Experienced and novice artists will join us for 3 days of tutored landscape painting with Jock Nichols and Bridget Flannery. On the first day artists will paint in the The Lutyens designed Heywood gardens, the second day will see them enjoy painting in woods and by the lakes of the Heywood Estate, on the third day they will paint in historic Ballinakill Village. Artists will have the opportunity to display their work in a pop-up gallery in Ballinakill village.
Last year some of Lutyens greatest works were depicted in flowers by floral artists from Kilkenny and Durrow-Cullahill Flower Clubs. This year we are concentrating on the work of Lutyens’ greatest collaborator, garden designer Gertrude Jekyll.
Tours, Talks and Tea
Talks on Jekyll will be given by Dr Matthew Jebb of the Botanic Gardens and Geoff Stebbings, editor of Garden Answers Magazine and former Head Gardener at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. Visitors will also enjoyed a guided tour of Heywood Gardens with Lutyens Grand-niece Amanda Pitcairn, this will be followed by a stunning afternoon tea in Ballinakill Village.
Fishing & Yoga
The second annual Lutyens Cup fishing competition will take place on Sat 22nd. Another highlight is yoga in the sunken garden at Heywood on Sunday 23rd.
The festival is scheduled to run from Aug 20th-23rd. Keep and eye out for updates.
