Firm Favorites, Contemporary & International Plays

Firm favourites like J.B. Keane, Tom Murphy, Friel and Hugh Leonard feature regularly. International tastes are catered for as evidenced in the recent inclusion of works by Tennessee Williams, Lorca and Yasmin Reza. It is not unusual in the programme to see classic from Strindberg or Chekov sit side by side with new writing from emerging playwrights like John McManus. Over the eight-night programme patrons will be taken through an epic theatrical experience spanning Tragedy, Farce, Thriller, Drama, Comedy and who knows what else but for sure and enthralling journey.

Top Irish Amateur Drama

Our performers and production crews are selected from the top amateur groups in the country. We regularly feature the full podium from the RTE sponsored National Drama finals, indeed an appearance on the bill at Mountmellick is often a pointer for future achievements with companies going on to tour internationally.

Friendly Welcome From Fellow Drama Lovers

Mountmellick Drama Festival is renowned nationally as the friendliest theatre event on the circuit. The hosting committee will greet you each evening and are available to attend to your every need. You will have the opportunity to chat about the show over light refreshments at the interval and during the post show banter that takes place each night in theatre itself. It is not unusual to see audience, performers, adjudicator and festival staff submerged in discourse long after final curtain.
