We Sent a Rubber Duck on a Tour of Laois – Here’s What It Loved

Meet Daisy: Laois’s Feathered Explorer

She’s small, yellow, and doesn’t say much – but don’t let that fool you. Daisy the Duck is on a mission to explore every corner of County Laois, one quack-worthy stop at a time. With nothing but her sense of adventure and a firm commitment to waddling off the beaten path, she’s become something of a local legend.

From elegant estates to unexpected espresso breaks, Daisy’s journey proves that you don’t need wings to travel – just webbed feet and impeccable taste.

Daisy of the Manor

Daisy waddled into Emo Court ready for a day of discovery. She was quacking with excitement to explore the amazing basement tours, where she could step back in time and see what life was like for the workers in the big house – a bit like stepping into the world of Downton Abbey.

After her subterranean adventure, she stretched her wings on the sweeping grounds, enjoying a leisurely stroll along the pathways and taking in the beautifully manicured lawns. She even spotted some of her cousins swimming gracefully on the lake – and couldn’t resist joining them for a little splash!

To top off her day, Daisy spoilt herself at CatoCa Tea Rooms. Surrounded by stunning views, she indulged in beak-watering homemade cakes and treats, and picked up some gorgeous giftware to bring a little piece of Emo Court back to her family. It was a truly duck-lightful day full of history, exploration, and indulgence.

Drama, Ducks, and Dunamaise

Move over Shakespeare – Daisy took her rightful place in the plush red seats of Dunamaise Arts Centre, moments away from demanding stage time… until she decided the acoustics were far better from the audience anyway. From drama to dance and everything in between, Daisy was thoroughly impressed.

She may not have wings for jazz hands, but she certainly had the flippers for a standing ovation! With an exciting lineup in the coming weeks – family theatre, live music, and even a comedy night – Dunamaise is the perfect spot for a bit of culture in Portlaoise.

No trip to Portlaoise is complete without a little shopping, of course! Daisy couldn’t resist visiting Nook & Cranny, where the aroma of beautiful candles greets you as soon as you walk in, making it nearly impossible to leave. She picked up a few treasures for her family, feeling perfectly pampered and inspired. Truly a quack-tastic experience from start to finish!

Waddle and Unwind

After a whirlwind tour of Laois, Daisy needed somewhere to rest her head for the night – and Midlands Park Hotel was the perfect choice. She skipped the spa robe (not quite her size) and headed straight to the poolside for a bit of well-earned relaxation, soaking in the tranquil vibes and sleek design.

That evening, she dined at Kelly’s Steakhouse, where the warm atmosphere and friendly staff made for a fine dining experience to remember. To round off her evening, Daisy waddled over to the Charter Bar to quak open a cocktail, soaking in the lively vibes and toasting to another duck-tastic day in Laois.

Daisy may have paddled off into the sunset (probably in search of her next snack), but her journey is far from over – and yours could be just beginning. From historic estates and woodland hikes to cultural gems, shopping, and poolside lounging, she’s proven there’s no shortage of things to discover in Laois.

Follow in her webbed footsteps – you don’t need feathers to explore, just curiosity, comfy shoes, and maybe a soft spot for duck puns.
