Laois Walks Festival 2025

We’re delighted to help bring back this much-loved free walking festival with over 20+ guided walks across Laois throughout July. From forest trails to mountain hikes, heritage routes to family strolls – there’s something for all fitness levels. Each walk is guided, graded, and finishes with some well-earned refreshments.

Laois Walks Festival Bike & Hike/ Rail & Scale/ Ride & Stride

Celebrate Port Arlington's unique heritage with a scenic and accessible 4km walk from Portarlington Railway Station to the historic Spire in Carrick Wood. Enjoy a heritage talk on the recent restoration of Portarlington Railway Station, followed by light refreshments including tea, coffee, water, sandwiches, and biscuits.

Laois Walks Festival Nore Amenity Area Walk & Discover Family Friendly

Join a magical self-guided discovery walk through the beautiful Nore Amenity Area. Families will receive a discovery pack with clues to follow, activities to complete, and surprises to uncover — keep your eyes peeled for magic folk and fairies. Perfect for families and walkers of all ages and fitness levels.

Great Heath Walk Explore the Heritage of Maryborough

Take a scenic and historic 5KM loop around the Great Heath of Maryborough. Mostly grass terrain with gentle elevation changes. This leisurely walk is rich in local heritage and natural beauty.  Refreshments and toilet facilities available at The Heath Community Hall.

Carrigmeal Woodland Walk Views, Nature & Exploration

Enjoy a peaceful 4KM loop through the award-winning Carrigmeal Woodland in Dysart, Co. Laois. With shortcuts available, it suits all abilities. A panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Rock of Dunamase, Slieve Bloom & Fossy Mountains. A wonderful blend of walking, discovery, and natural beauty.

Oakvale Woods Hike – History, Challenge & Scenic Trails

Take on a rewarding 12KM hike through Oakvale Woods, rich in natural beauty and historical significance .Remote and peaceful trails ideal for experienced walkers, expect some demanding terrain with rewarding views and atmosphere. Toilet facilities and refreshments provided at the car park.

Timahoe Loop Walk Forest Trails & Scenic Views

Enjoy a 6KM looped walk from Timahoe village through Fossy forest paths, returning via Swan Road. Expect breath-taking views of Timahoe and surrounding hills on this peaceful yet invigorating route. Suitable for all levels of fitness, toilet facilities and light refreshments at the Community Hall afterwards.

Fraughan Sunday Walk Berry Picking & Mountain Scenery

Celebrate the tradition of Fraughan Sunday with a hike across the mountain to Arderin. This 2.6KM ascent (290m elevation gain) follows a scenic farm road and mountain path, with opportunities to pick wild fraughan berries along the way—smaller, sweeter, and darker than blueberries. Toilet facilities and refreshments at The Poets Cottage, Camross afterwards.
