Timahoe Heritage Festival

1st June - 2nd June

Are you a fan of history? Discover the uncovered story of Vikings in Laois at the Timahoe Heritage Festival!

Timahoe Heritage Festival

This event is all about sharing the story of an interesting little village in Co. Laois. It is steeped in centuries of history, from monks, monasteries and Vikings to the famine, the War of Independence and beyond. With Heritage Runs, Heritage Talks, a Funfair, Art and Craft Fair, Fancy Dress, Free Children’s Workshops, a Reenactment Viking Village, Archery Range, displays in Basket Making, Beekeeping, Weaving, Pottery, Medieval Cooking, and Viking Weaponry, we really can say, there is something for everyone!

The School of Irish Archaeology is proud to introduce the next step in the evolution of creative and hands-on learning for our younger generation. Our replica ‘Viking House’ and excavation site allows children and young adults to explore the Viking world through a simulated archaeology dig.

The site is a fully mobile construction which is suitable for Festivals, Family Fun Days, Heritage/Corporate Events and is now available for participating schools and event centres nationwide. The workshop gives children and young adults the chance to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house.
