Classic Film Screening Marty

Portlaoise Library will be screening the 1955 romantic drama Marty. This stunning directorial debut by Delbert Mann won the Academy Award for best picture and was also the first film to win the Palme d’Or award. Ernest Borgnine won the Academy Award for Best Actor, and the film features an equally brilliant performance by co-star Betsy Blair. Combining entertainment with human insight, Marty transcends the genre of romantic drama, combing realism with pathos in a masterpiece of character writing and performance.
