The Heath Golf Club

The Heath Golf Course, is located on The Great Heath, Co Laois, and an area of major archaeological interest with features in the area dating back to the Bronze Age and is the seventh oldest golf club in Ireland.  The 18 hole golf course is located just 7.5kms from Portlaoise and 3kms from Junction 16 on the M7.  It has stunning views extending over Kildare to the Wicklow Mountains, to the Slieve Blooms, and overlooked by the Rock of Dunamaise and Killone Hill.

The course, often described as an “inland links”, is laid out on open heathland with a natural small lake on the 18th and furze featuring on many holes; it is a blaze of yellow from early spring onwards. Due to the course’s exceptionally good drainage golf is playable practically all year round with the permanent greens always in use. Facilities available include a 10-bay driving range, lake-side putting green, pitching practice area as well as a magnificent clubhouse. There is a well-stocked pro shop, managed by a PGA professional catering for all golf needs including trolley and buggy hire, and coaching if you need a bit of help!  The clubhouse bar and restaurant, managed by a professional chef is open for a wide variety of sandwiches, snacks, teas, coffees, lunches and can be booked for events.

The Club welcomes visitors and societies’ outings and has a deal for accommodation and golf with the major Portlaoise hotels; see our website for details.

The Irish Golf Review Winter/Spring 2011/2012 stated “The Heath is one of the most enjoyable day-outs to be found anywhere, especially if you’re not all that keen on climbing up and down hills for much of your day! It should suit all types of golfers, blessed as it is with a friendly course and delightful clubhouse, all within a short few miles from the M7 and approx. an hour from Dublin”.
