Three days of tutored outdoor painting, in the wonderful setting of Heywood Gardens, the surrounding woodlands, and Ballinakill Village.
The organisers are thrilled to welcome back tutors, Jock Nichols and Bridgette Flannery, both established and successful artists, who oversaw last year’s inaugural event.
Day One, takes place on August 20th in the glorious surroundings of Heywood Gardens, designed in 1906, by Edwin Lutyens and planted by Gertrude Jekyll.

Day Two takes place on August 21st, in the magical woodlands of the Heywood Estate, which boasts woodland trails, lakeside walks and a huge diversity of wildlife and nature, all set in the most wonderful picturesque solitude.

Day Three, which takes place on August 23rd, is set in the historical former Charter village of Ballinakill, with an abundance of subject matter on offer, from historic buildings to street views.

Fishing Competition
Saturday 22nd August
This year’s Fishing competition takes place on Saturday 22nd August, beginning at 10am with a draw for fishing spots.
The angling will begin at Gills Pond at 11am and will conclude at 4pm. A fee of €10 applies to all participants and places are limited. For registration details please contact Norman Rothwell on 087 2879070.
This competition is run in conjunction with Ballinakill Angling Club.
Tours, Talks & Picnic Afternoon Tea
Saturday 22nd August
A Guided Tour of Heywood Gardens, with Lutyens’ descendant, Amanda Pitcairn, followed by talks with Dr. Matthew Jebb, Botanic Gardens, and Geoff Stebbings, Editor of Garden Answers Magazine, and former Head Gardener at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The talks will take place, either side of Afternoon Tea, which will be served picnic-style.
Guided Historical Walk of Ballinakill and Heywood
Saturday 22nd August
This Guided Historical Walk of Ballinakill and Heywood tawill depart from the Village Square.
The guide for the walk is local historian, and co-author of Ballinakill A Journey Through Time, Ger Dunphy.
The walk will avoid busy roads, and there is a section of off-road walking, with moderate terrain throughout, and will be approximately one hour in duration.
The walk promises to be both enjoyable and informative with the Masslough Lake, Trench Family Mausoleum, Heywood Estate and Gills Pond just a few of the many places of interest that will be visited, along the route
We cannot think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning in August, than a calming Yoga class, in the stunning surroundings of Heywood Gardens. Our Yogi for the session, Simon Rogers, as well as being a passionate Yoga teacher, is also a Natural Health and Well Being Therapist, and is Facilitator at Blackhill Woods Retreat, which is a sanctuary of Nature, Yoga & Well Being, in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.
